Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Construction Manager in Memphis, TN, you will plan, direct, and coordinate a wide variety of environmental and construction projects including the construction of remediation systems, landfill containment or closure systems, coal combustion residual pond closures, roads, tanks, and occasionally building construction or demolition; supervise and coordinate the construction process from the conceptual development stage through final construction, assuring the project is completed in a timely manner and within budget; work alongside clients, engineers, and architects involved in the construction process; and represent our clients in large multi-phase construction projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement, interpret and apply technical specifications, construction drawings, and work plans;
  • Support project design team and provide constructability reviews of design plans and drawings;
  • Effectively communicate proposed design modifications to the Engineer-of-Record in a timely and professional manner;
  • Ensure materials, tools, and equipment are delivered and utilized properly to facilitate quality construction;
  • Review, recommend and approve contractor change orders delegated under client authority;
  • Prepare detailed responses to contractor requests for information and clarification to the contract documents in a timely manner;
  • Review and approve contractors’ construction quality control (CQC) procedures including material submittals and manufacturers’ quality control (MQC) documents for completeness and compliance. Maintain complete and accurate files for each submittal;
  • Maintain time and production records, analyze construction schedules and critical path management (CPM), and monitor construction progress with respect to scheduling and CPM tasks;
  • Review, track, and approve contractor and subcontractor pay requests, invoices, and payments on a timely basis;
  • Prepare and approve subordinates’ final reports, work plans, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices;
  • Prepare progress meeting agendas and meeting minutes in an orderly and timely manner;
  • Approve and issue field change requests and request change orders;
  • Review and edit field document corrective action strategies to address substandard or non-compliant workmanship or materials;
  • Develop and prepare sampling, testing schedules, and detailed test data summaries;
  • Review field documentation and laboratory tests of construction materials and verify their accuracy and compliance with the project specifications;
  • Establish, organize, and maintain field offices to ensure accurate, secure, and well-organized project records;
  • Identify project staffing requirements and prepare and maintain on-site personnel schedules to meet project deadlines;
  • Interact with project personnel including, contractors, project managers, engineers and clients to cultivate an integrated team approach through open lines of communication and participation in work progress meetings;
  • Implement and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans (HASP) and the company’s Health and Safety policies and procedures; and
  • Identify and participate in new business development opportunities, proposal preparations, and negotiating scopes of work.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 100%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 100%

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • High School diploma and eleven (11) years applicable experience; an associate degree or a college diploma and a minimum nine (9) years of applicable experience, or a bachelor’s degree in construction science, construction management, engineering, physical science, environmental science, or related subjects and a minimum of seven (7) years of applicable experience or equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, ability and construction management skills.   • Prior experience managing large multi-task construction or environmental remediation projects and sophisticated estimating and scheduling techniques. (required)
  • Solid waste landfill and coal combustion residual pond closure experience (preferred)
  • Previous project management background and knowledge of CPM software. (preferred).
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Windows based software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint etc.). (required)
  • Technical understanding of site investigation, construction quality assurance, and/or construction management procedures for solid waste facility or environmental remediation projects. (required)
  • Ability to monitor several different types of construction and environmental activities simultaneously. (required)
  • Strong willingness to work outdoors with interest in building a career in the environmental consulting field. (required)
  • Ability to speak and hear, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or craw. (required)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be self-motivated, and possess a strong work ethic. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
