We are seeking a Senior Geologist to serve as an Environmental Practice Leader to lead and grow our Fresno, California office, an integral and expanding part of our Northern California Operations.
This leadership role is well suited for an experienced professional with a deep understanding of the Northern California and Central Valley environmental services market, including client needs, regulatory drivers, and emerging opportunities. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening and expanding our regional presence, building on existing capabilities while helping define the strategic direction for future growth.
As an Environmental Practice Leader, you will provide technical leadership, business development vision, and people leadership, advancing our environmental initiatives while mentoring and developing high‑performing teams. You will cultivate long‑term client relationships and collaborate closely with regional and national leaders to deliver innovative, technically defensible solutions. The practice encompasses a wide range of innovative and technically challenging projects, including:
- Contaminated site assessment and remediation
- Groundwater management and water supply
- Litigations support and expert services
- Contaminant fate and transport analysis

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop a robust client portfolio through new and repeat business. Lead business development efforts, including creating and implementing business plans, establishing new client relationships, retaining existing ones, and managing proposal submissions.
- Provide strong technical guidance, professional mentorship, and support to early- and mid-career colleagues.
- Oversee office leadership by setting vision, guiding recruitment, and driving growth for our Fresno location.
- Manage projects effectively, including handling budgets, resources, schedules, compliance with quality standards, client satisfaction, and profitability.
- Prepare technical documents such as reports, correspondence, plans, specifications, and proposals.
- Foster a positive health and safety culture, which is fundamental to our operations.
- Participate in meetings or negotiations with clients, regulators, and other stakeholders.
- Serve as a practice leader in an area such as groundwater and/or soil remediation, innovative remedial technologies emerging contaminants, vapor intrusion management, groundwater management and water supply, or litigation support and contaminant fate and transport.
- Establish and foster trust-based relationships with clients, regulatory personnel, and other project stakeholders.
- Complete required OSHA/MSHA health and safety, first aid, CPR training, and medical monitoring (paid for by the firm).
- Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Education and Licensure
- Bachelor's degree in geology, environmental science, earth science (geology or hydrology, or a related subject. (required)
- Advanced degree the same. (preferred)
- Professional registration (i.e., P.G.) (required) C.H.G. (Preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- At least 8 years (10+ years preferred) of direct environmental consulting experience in the California marketplace; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
- Proven track record in successful client management and business development. (required)
- Excellent leadership of multidisciplinary project teams. (required)
- Demonstrated experience in managing resources, finances, and schedules for projects. (required)
- Effective oral, written communication, and technical writing skills. (required)
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
- Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
- Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.
- Minimum Salary: $116,440/year / Maximum Salary: $189,100/year (Fresno, CA)
