Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Environmental, Health, and Safety Consultant in our Houston, Texas or Baton Rouge, Louisiana office to help us grow our practice, manage client development for process safety, and environmental, health, and safety (EHS) projects. You must have an entrepreneurial attitude, and enthusiasm for supporting business development and technical efforts to expand Geosyntec’s market share. This position supports the creation and implementation of new strategies by providing strategic solutions to our clients’ most complex problems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as an Environmental Management practice leader focused on business development of EHS services, with an emphasis on H&S, staff mentorship and growth, and expansion of practice services internally to existing Geosyntec client teams, and externally for newly identified clients.
- Lead and deliver process safety projects for clients in industries including, but not limited to, oil & gas, chemicals, and manufacturing.
- Develop and implement PSM programs aligned with OSHA 1910.119 and other global standards.
- Develop and Implement RMP programs aligned with CAA Section 112(r).
- Conduct and lead hazard analyses (HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA).
- Perform audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Support mechanical integrity, management of change (MoC), and emergency planning services for clients.
- Review and interpretation of pending and new regulations and developing strategies for clients externally, and mentoring and supporting internal Geosyntec team development.
- Reviewing and preparing technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals.
- Providing clients with project management, technical advice and training related to environmental compliance, sustainability, and environmental management systems.
- Support in Geosyntec marketing efforts and client business development.
- Fieldwork: Up to 30%
- Overnight travel: Up to 30%
- Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Education and Licensure
- Bachelor's degree chemical, environmental, civil engineering. (required)
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) chemical or environmental engineering. (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- At least 10 years (15+ preferred) of experience working in a consulting, manufacturing or industrial environment, with in-depth knowledge of process safety management, principles, methodologies, and regulatory requirements, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
- Experience managing the overall delivery of projects including, project planning and controls, financial management, change management, risk management, and contract/subcontract management. (required)
- Experience in development and implementation of comprehensive process safety management programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. (preferred)
- Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
- Experience with Microsoft Office products. (required)
- Ability to make presentations at industrial conferences and at client meetings. (required)
- Field work and overnight travel may be required.
- Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
- Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
