Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior or Principal Sediment Remediation Engineer or Scientist to join our Sediment Remediation and Waterfront Redevelopment practice in our Pacific Northwest Branch with offices in Seattle, WA, or other Geosyntec Branches. This role will involve managing people and projects, ensuring technical excellence, and providing expertise on sediment remediation. It is ideal for a talented and highly experienced individual who is interested in being a leader and contributing to innovative and challenging projects, including the financial and technical evaluation, design, permitting, and construction stages. Our client base includes a diverse mix of industrial, institutional, and governmental clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec’s culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks. Some of the key responsibilities may include:
- Managing challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management;
- Task and project management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, budgeting and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability;
- Evaluate contaminated sites and develop remediation approaches, including feasibility studies, removal action work plans, remediation design plans;
- Lead the development of work plans, data evaluation, and cost-benefit analyses;
- Implement remedial pilot tests and systems, including vendor selection, logistical coordination, permitting, and supervision of field teams;
- Write technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals; oversee and review documents prepared by project teams;
- Build a portfolio of clients by winning new clients and obtaining repeat business from existing clients, leading proposal preparation, and executing a personal business development plan;
- Foster trust-based relationships with clients, regulatory personnel, and other project stakeholders;
- Mentor, guide, and motivate early career staff assigned in the areas of project performance, cost, schedule management, client expectations and career development; work with employees to correct deficiencies;
- At times, this position may also include fieldwork including site visits, multi-media environmental sampling and characterization, drilling oversight, contractor oversight, and remediation system operations, maintenance, and construction; and
- Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Education and Licensure
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, chemical, or environmental preferred) or geology. (required)
- Advanced degree the same. (preferred)
- Professional registration (i.e., P.E. P.G.) (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- At least 8 years (10+ years preferred) of direct environmental consulting experience in the Pacific Northwest marketplace; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
- Detailed understanding of CERCLA and other applicable state regulations. (required)
- Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (required)
- Demonstrated success in the development and management of clients, and leadership skills. (required)
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
- Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
- Field work and overnight travel may be required.
- Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
- Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.
- Minimum: $121,985/year / Maximum: $209,060/year (Seattle, WA)
We offer a comprehensive benefits package to all eligible employees including, 9 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, a minimum of 8 sick days, and a minimum of 11 vacation days per year, in line with state or federal requirements.
